Brief description: - Creating a small imaginary creature, using bold colours and simple knitting techniques.
Workshop content: -
Inspired by the Freudian unconscious, create your own imaginary creature using simple knitting techniques.
Soft sculpture, and knitting simple three dimensional forms
Combining bold colours, textured and neon yarns
Creating holes and slits, and infilling with stitch to build pattern
Knitting on to fabric
There will be a demonstration of basic knitting techniques (flat and double pointed needles, casting on and off, increasing and decreasing, knit and purl stitches), with discussions on felting and creating visceral effects with paints and gels. A range of samples and sketchbooks will be on display to encourage further exploration after the session.
All levels of ability are welcome. The workshop is aimed at anyone with an interest in textiles, wishing to explore the artistic potential of knitting. Participants can make an experimental sample, or a small accessory such as a badge.
What attendees should bring: -
Materials will be supplied. However, if you have a preference for a specific yarn or knitting needle, please bring it with you (H&S good idea to carry needles with point-protectors).
