On the 28th of October 2019 at the Dorsett City London Hotel (Aldgate East, London) the hanging of the winning photograph Umbrella, by the artist Eric Etchart marked the final event of Summer in Aldgate, the photo competition ideated by The Aldgate Partnership (TAP) in collaboration with Leyden Gallery. Leyden Gallery contributed in the judging panel, along with The Whitechapel Gallery, The Aldgate Partnership, London Metropolitan University (CASS), Gensler, a local resident member of ACE (Aldgate Community Enterprise) and an external expert photographer. The panel met during the first week of September, and the winner was finally announced on 19 September during the Awards ceremony, hosted at Leyden Gallery. The first edition of the competition has been a great success, with more than 100 entries on Instagram. #summerinaldgate
“The photos have been amazing from our #summerinaldgate photo competition. It has been great to see people engaging with community buildings and public art; encouraging such a great sense of place”, says The Aldgate Partnership.
Leyden Gallery’s team is honoured to have been involved in this local and cultural initiative, and they are looking forward, not only to its second edition but also to many future collaborations.
