ROSINA GODWIN - Knitted Womb
Knitted Womb
The nurturing connotations of knitting become subverted when formed into a taboo body part – a womb. The piece is partly inspired by the film Aliens (the ‘Terrible Mother’) and Sigmund Freud’s Oedipal Complex (penis envy). The knitted tube/umbilical cord acts as a substitute phallus.
